Top Award for Caernarfon Care Home
Bryn Seiont Newydd has been named as the best care home in the UK. Opened last November on the outskirts of Caernarfon, Bryn Seiont Newydd took the top prize in the main category at the prestigious Pinders Healthcare Design Awards 2016.
Datrys was employed by Carroll Builders & Contractors of Ruthin as part of a design and build contract to undertake the full structural and civil engineering aspects of Phase 1 of the care home.
The £4m project involved demolishing the hospital buildings of the former Ysbyty Bryn Seiont community hospital, clearing the site and undertaking a full new build to the latest standards.
Denbigh-based chartered building surveyors Wynn Rogers were architects for the centre, which is a 71-bed facility divided into eight small, family-like units to ensure the individual care and attention of its residents.
Building on the successful completion of Phase 1, the same design team is currently undertaking Phase 2 of the project – to construct a £3m extra care facility on the site.
“This was a well-run project and working in collaboration with the design team was a smooth process,” said Project Manager, Warren Lewis.
“It has resulted in an excellent end product and we are proud to have been involved in such an important project within our community which will benefit the local population in terms of care facilities and jobs.”
Bryn Seiont Newydd is the brainchild of Mario Kreft and his wife, Gill, who founded Pendine Park just over 30 years ago when they were unable to find suitable social care for their own grandparents.
