Bangor Pier Inspection

Datrys has been working alongside Bangor City Council on the restoration of Garth Pier, Bangor. Restoration of the Pier – almost 0.5km in length built originally in 1896 – is seen as a catalyst to maintaining the vibrancy of this part of Bangor, with its striking aspect towards the Menai Straits and the Great Orme.

The essential first stage of the restoration process was the description of the current condition of the Pier structure. The City Council appointed Datrys to carry out the visual survey.

A numbered category system was used to gauge the condition of the steel elements, a major challenge in view of the large number of steel elements within the structure.

Datrys used an approach to this project that we have adopted on other pier inspections and it proved very successful in the case of Garth Pier.

Datrys has presented the findings of the survey in a summary report with recommendations. Bangor City Council have taken the recommendations forward in a Heritage Lottery bid.

Datrys worked on the Garth Pier restoration project alongside Advent who prepared the cost estimate within the bid.
